While power tools and tacky ties have their place, Tiny Lights provides a venue where there’s activities for everyone in the family.

“Since our festival falls on Father’s Day this year we wanted to do something that could celebrate Dads while still offering the whole family an amazing experience,” says Festival Director Carla Stephenson. “We have so many family oriented activities it seemed only natural to carve out something special for Dad.”

All the music PLUS, Tiny Lights has partnered with Ski Whitewater to host a Father’s Day Brunch. During the feast, Kootenay favorites The Good ol' Goats will putting on a special acoustic performance.

The menu will offer everything from homemade granola with berry compote, to eggs benny with honey glazed ham to a bacon, caramelized onion quiche, all prepared by Whitewater chefs on site in Ymir.

“Not only do we have a mind blowing line up of music we have a really incredible array of workshops and activities that the whole family can enjoy.”

More Than Music

One such activity is the Fearless Family Adventure Race with prizes including Whitewater ski passes and swag. The race will have a series of tasks some physically challenging some cerebrally challenging in a timed atmosphere.

“Think the Amazing Race meets historic mining and arts town in ski country.”

For those less inclined to compete, well known wild crafter and Ymir native Keith Davies will host a forest walk about ethical and sustainable harvesting practices and collection techniques for wild plants and herbs.

In the tradition of Ymir’s mining history, there will be gold panning in the Salmo River. While not necessarily a get rich quick scheme, participants will get to learn the incredible history of mining in the area and a chance to get their hands wet searching for gold.

“There’s been lots of gold found there so people should expect to get lucky,” adds Stephenson.

Activities also include hula hooping, shadow theatre, crafts for kids, artist trading card workshop and a DJing workshop.

“We’ve got six stages with performances by some of the best indie groups in Canada, live theatre, film, dance, spoken word, there’s literally something for everyone. This isn’t tiny, it’s actually really really big!”
